Travis Post 76 Honor Guard
Travis Post 76 has a multi-purpose Honor Guard known as the
“Spirit of 76” that performs as:
A Color Guard, a Marching and Firing Detail, and a Funeral Honors Team
Background: DOD is no longer providing a full Funeral Detail for Veterans. According to the VA's National Cemetery Administration, which serves the nation’s 25 million living military Veterans that, population, especially among aging World War II Veterans, is rapidly declining. They noted 550,000 Veterans died in the annual fiscal year 1999. And Veteran deaths will continue to increase and reach an estimated peak of 620,000 in 2008. They point out that over 1,000 World War II Veterans are dying each day, in addition to another 500-plus Veteran from other periods of service. DOD is required to provide only two Active Duty Military members.
The American Legion is a "preferred provider", meaning we are authorized to supplement the two man Active Duty military detail. We intend to do the best we can to help.
